Why did you get a dog if you can’t afford to take it to the vet, to a training class or to buy it food?
damselchum asked the question:
Why is that people get a dog and then watch it suffer and die because they cannot afford the health care it needs? Or drop it off at the pound because they couldn’t afford to go to obedience classes? Or feed it it really bad quality kibble because it is cheaper?
Please tell me WHAT was going through your head when you decided to buy (and take on the responsibility!) of that cute puppy in the window?

Good questions—I fully agree with you!!!!… or any pet for that matter.
You expect these very same people to answer this. Not a chance.
What was going through their head is the same thing that goes through peoples heads that decide to have children that they can’t afford, don’t take them to the doctors even when they have broken bones or are deathly ill, feed them crap food all the time while they eat steak, and drop them off at a relatives house when they decide they don’t want them any more. Some people are just bad people.
I hate it. My mom’s the same way. Refuses to take my dog to the vet unless its something life threatening (like the time his old vet botched the neutering and he almost bled to death twice..), insists on buying crap food even when I offer to pay for something good and the gas to get to the store and back, won’t “waste” money on any sort of toy for him, but will buy a toy for my grandma’s dog if its just “too cute to pass up.” Luckily, my dad loves him and always helps me take care of him =]
PS - We didn’t buy him. He was free from someone whose AKC German Shepherd “accidentally” got to their mutt bitch and they didn’t want little mutt pups. Best accident ever xD
I couldn’t agree more with you. I don’t mean to sound mean if you are somewhat poor but If you can’t afford the fixing , feeding, toys, leashes, grooming, vet checks and all the other things you shouldn’t even consider getting the pet.
I don’t think there is anything IN their head when they get a puppy.
The only possible way that could be justified is if you’re trying to rescue a dog from an abusive situation. I’ve heard of people taking dogs that were chained and starved and trying to take care of them. I guess if that person realized they couldn’t afford all the costs that would be acceptable. But in reality its never the case so yeah I agree with you, it’s senseless.
because they love dogs.
my dogs have their shots, but i don’t take them the the vet ALL THE TIME.
whenever my dogs start acting weird, i.e. not playing, eating, etc., i call my local vet and see what their opinion is. i do what they say and if it gets worse i take them.
but you also have to consider how many people are getting laid off from their jobs and can’t even afford to keep themselves up anymore.
and you don’t have to make your dog take obedience classes if you know how to do it yourself.
i can understand if the person got the dog and didn’t pay any attention to it, fed it the wrong kind of food, etc.
but you should consider what some people do and what some people know before you go and judge.
